Hello my lovely readers! This was the last book in The Color Purple Series and I admit, I have to eat my words from my last review:
"I still plan on reading the third book in this series Possessing the Secret of Joy, but I don't have high hopes for it."
Boy, was I wrong! Let's get into it.
SYNOPSIS
In Tashi’s tribe, the Olinka, young girls undergo female genital mutilation as an initiation into the community. Tashi manages to avoid this fate at first, but when pressed by tribal leaders, she submits. Years later, married and living in America as Evelyn Johnson, Tashi’s inner pain emerges. As she questions why such a terrifying, disfiguring sacrifice was required, she sorts through the many levels of subjugation with which she’s been burdened over the years.

MY THOUGHTS
You ever read a book that was so good it almost made you cuss? That was me with this book! Alice Walker knocked it out of the park with this one and I think I mighhhhhht like this one a bit more than The Color Purple. It was definitely miles above The Temple of My Familiar, that's for sure!
The prose, the format, the storytelling, the characters...EVERYTHING was incredibly powerful and I couldn't get enough of it. It evoked such strong emotions out of me that I can't even begin to explain how I feel about this novel. It was beautiful. It was terrifying. It was heartbreaking. It was powerful. It's a novel that will stay with me and one that I definitely see myself re-reading for years to come.
